WITH NO GAS PRESENT, THE RESISTANCES OF THE TWO ELEMENTS ARE IN BALANCE, BUT IN THE PRESENCE OF GAS, THE TEMPERATURE AND HENCE THE RESISTANCE OF THE DETECTOR CHANGES.
